The 7 Solutions to RPG Temporal Paradoxes
Plus ACKS Campaigns, Grey Brotherhood Episodes, and More
Today I released the 26th episode of my YT Show Arbiter of Worlds. It’s a sequel to last week’s video on 1:1 timekeeping in which I present seven ways to solve the problem of temporal paradoxes in RPGs that can arise from using 1:1 Gygaxian time. I finally invested in a pro-quality Shure MV7 podcast microphone. If you notice an improvement in the sound quality, let me know!
Actual Play Reports of ACKS
There are more people playing ACKS today than at any point in the game’s 12-year history. It’s incredibly gratifying to me as a designer and it gives me hope that ACKS II will reach an even broader base. With the help of the Autarch Discordians, I compiled some links to ACKS campaigns:
In addition to these, several of my fellow Substackers are also running ACKS campaigns.
What? You haven’t checked out the flourishing ACKS Substack community? Well, here’s some blogs to check out. We’ve added new ones to the list!
There’s also a special campaign I want to call out. It’s run by my friend Ajax Plunkett. Ajax and I both grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and his brother and I gamed together regularly. Ajax runs the South Park Township Library’s D&D Club for Teens — except that instead of D&D, he’s converted the teens to playing ACKS! Ajax kindly sent me links to the public photographs of his group playing that are posted on the Library’s Facebook page. Huge shout out for building the next generation of ACKS gamers. (And I don’t wanna hear any more nonsense about ACKS being too complex.)
If you have a blog or third-party product that supports ACKS or Ascendant, please let me know and I’ll be happy to include you in my next round-up.
ACKS II Update
It seems likely that ACKS II will Kickstart in October. I regret the delay very much but “it is what it is.” Rome wasn’t built in a day.
This September, Adventurer-tier backers of my Patreon got an updated beta of the ACKS II Revised Rulebook, Conqueror-tier backers got an updated Judges Journal, and King-tier backers are getting an updated Monstrous Manual. If you’ve been wanting to check out how ACKS II is shaping up, you can head over to the Patreon now.
